A new coin.
The 1996 Azerbaijan 50 manat silver proof coin, certified by PCGS as PR69 DCAM, marks the 500th anniversary of Mehemmed Fuzuli (1494–1556)—a towering voice of classical Azerbaijani literature. The obverse carries a dignified bust of Fuzuli in a turban and robe, with the clean legend “MƏHƏMMƏD FÜZULI – 500 IL.” The reverse is a miniature-style tableau rich in detail: a seated poet gently supports a reclining youth; to the left stands a graceful gazelle (deer); behind them rise a rocky hillside dotted with trees, shrubs and foliage, while tufts of grass and small ground details enliven the foreground. Around the rim appears “AZƏRBAYCAN RESPUBLİKASI • 50 MANAT • 1996.” Fuzuli, author of “Leyli and Majnun,” wrote in Azerbaijani, Persian and Arabic, shaping the poetic ideals of love, ethics and devotion across the Turkic world. Struck in brilliant proof with deep cameo contrast and graded near-perfect by PCGS, this issue fuses literature, fine engraving and national identity—an elegant highlight for any world or poetry-themed collection.
