The 2014 Armenia 100 Dram silver coin from the “World’s Oldest Trees” series honors the legendary Hundred Horse Chestnut, located on the slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily, Italy. Considered the largest and oldest known chestnut tree in the world, it is believed to be more than 2,000 years old. Its name comes from a legend that a queen and her entourage of one hundred knights once found shelter beneath its massive branches during a storm. The reverse of the coin presents a detailed engraving of the chestnut’s thick trunk and spreading limbs, with a chestnut fruit engraved to the side. The inscription HUNDRED HORSE CHESTNUT is highlighted with green coloring at the base. The obverse displays the coat of arms of the Republic of Armenia, supported by the lion and eagle, surrounded by rich decorative motifs of forest fruits and leaves, with a green-colored chestnut husk adding a vivid detail. With a Proof strike and certified PCGS PR70DCAM, this coin combines fine artistry with cultural and natural heritage.
