The 2011 Armenia 1000 Dram silver coin honors the Noravank Monastery, a jewel of medieval Armenian architecture, and its remarkable khachkars (cross-stones), which are considered masterpieces of spiritual and artistic heritage. On the reverse, the design centers on a textured image of a khachkar, with its finely carved cross and intricate ornaments, depicted with a natural stone-like appearance. Surrounding it are decorative motifs, Armenian script, the inscription Noravank Monastery, and the indication XIII century. At the top, a silhouette of the monastery complex with its domed church is engraved, reminding of the sacred site in the Vayots Dzor region. The obverse shows the national coat of arms of Armenia, with the eagle and lion holding the shield, alongside the inscription Republic of Armenia and the denomination 1000 dram. Founded in the 13th century, Noravank became a major cultural and religious center, especially known for the works of master architect Momik, whose khachkars are treasured worldwide. Issued in prooflike quality, this coin is a distinguished collectible, blending Armenia’s faith, artistry, and national pride in precious metal.
