“Volodymyr the Great” became the best of Ukrainian special coins ‘2015
“Best Ukrainian coin of the year”, an annual competition among the issued in 2015 uncirculated coins of Ukraine, was held by the National Bank recently. The winners were chosen by the results of the secret ballot of commission composed of experts from the National Bank and The Mint, members of the Expert Council on Ukrainian special coins’ design and representatives of numismatic organizations.
The competition has three nominations: “Best coin of the year”, “Best artistic solution” and “Best unique concept”.
The highest number of votes gained Ukraine silver coins “Volodymyr the Great, Grand Duke of Kyiv”, “Day of Defender of Ukraine”, “Bohdan Khmelnytskyi” and “Heavenly Hundred”. These special coins got to the final of the competition. Commemoratives “Pidhirtsi Castle”, “Oleshky sands”, “120 Years of Kharkiv Zoo”, “Euromaidan”, “70 Years of Victory. 1945-2015” and “Revolution of Dignity” also had numerous votes, but not enough to enter the final.
“Volodymyr the Great, Grand Duke of Kyiv” uncirculated coin won two nominations at once: “Best artistic solution” and “Best coin of the year”, which is the main award of competition. The authors of the coin’s design are Volodymyr Taran, Oleksandr Kharuk and Serhii Kharuk. The same designers’ team created the winner of the “Best unique concept” nomination, “Bohdan Khmelnytskyi” coin.
