New Ukrainian commemorative coins are dedicated to national education
There are some collectibles dedicated to the Ukrainian education and science among the new arrivals from the National Bank of Ukraine in September. The majority are struck in nickel silver (2 hryvnias in denomination correspondingly) and one design is repeated in 5-hryvnia .925 pure silver proof coin.
Two coins of September commemorate the anniversaries of Ukrainian educational establishments and one more is dedicated to the memory of Mykhailo Hrushevsky. The significant historian, academician and politician of the beginning of the XX century, nowadays, Hrushevsky is considered to be the main personality in Ukrainian pre-Soviet cultural and national movement. The nickel silver collectible piece shows his images on both sides - as the scientist on the reverse and as the statesman on the obverse. September-born Mykhailo Hrushevsky was born 150 years ago.
The Bicentenary of the Kharkiv based Dokuchaiev National Agrarian University is the subject of another commemorative 2-hryvnia piece issued recently. The coin’s design shows images related to the modern look of the university and its history including the portraits of people who played the outstanding roles in its development. The coin bears the university’s Coat of Arms as well.
The last day of September became the issue date for the beautiful collectible coin dedicated to the Kyiv National University of Trade and Economics. The piece minted in both non-precious nickel silver alloy and .925 pure silver commemorates the 70th Anniversary since its establishment. The coin’s surfaces traditionally show the Coat of Arms of the economical university and the view on its main building. While the nickel coin was issued in the average quantity, the silver one’s mintage is limited to only 2 000 pieces.
All coins were designed and engraved by different designers of NBU; the quality of 2-hryvnia pieces is special uncirculated and the silver coin is proof.
