New coins of Ukraine launched in May, 2016
The National Bank of Ukraine keeps manufacturing commemorative coins of Ukraine to please the collectors. The last three designs were struck in .925 silver and nickel silver in May, 2016. The new commemoratives are dedicated to the horse tram, victims of the Crimean Tatar people genocide and the Ukrainian folk art of Petrykivka decorative painting. The latter one is colorized in the painting style, both silver and nickel alloy coins. The full-color coloring is quite unusual for collectable coins of Ukraine; it adds the vivid character to the beautiful design in folk art manner.
Coins commemorating the tragedy of Crimean Tatar people’s deportation in 1944 have mintage quality of 2 000 pieces (silver) and 30 000 pieces (nickel); other nickel and silver Ukrainian coins issued in May, 2016 have mintage quality of 35 000 and 5 000 pieces respectively. Silver commemoratives have face value of 10 hryvnias and nickel silver coins have 5 hryvnias denomination.
Collectable Ukrainian silver coins are produced by the National Bank on a regular basis, so it isn’t hard to find a perfect fit for one’s own thematic coin collection. Beautiful commemoratives will be suitable for a gift too.
It’s notable that 1 Ukraine hryvnia nickel coins in new design launched in circulation since May 7 too. The new mintage is dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Victory in WWII and struck in 7 million pieces. New 1 hryvnia coin bears the image on its reverse depicting a soldier’s helmet and poppies, surrounded by the stylized triangles, symbolizing the flames of the candles. The obverse of the coin is unaltered since 1-hryvnia coin first appeared in circulation in 2004, while the reverse side has some thematic variations.
