The Republic of Côte d'Ivoire is an African country, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean. The French name of the state means Ivory Coast, which describes the main commodity of the country in colonial times. The state gained its independency from France in 1960, though local variant of French remains the official language. France still keeps tight connections with Ivory Coast and participates in its military conflicts during last decades. The legal tender notes and coins of Ivory Coast are called West African francs after French currency. Almost all the local population has the native origin. Due to the huge amount of various ethnicities, the land is somewhat of mosaic of different languages, traditions and cultures.
